Instagram is reportedly working on a new “Friend Map” feature that would, as the name suggests, allow you to see where your friends on the service are on a map.

The feature was originally spotted a few months ago by Alessandro Paluzzi, who posted a screenshot on X.

As The Verge notes, Paluzzi, who works as a software developer, frequently discovers Instagram features before they’re announced to the public. Today he posted additional screenshots of the feature on Threads and X.

Based on his screenshots, it appears you’ll be able to customize which of your friends on the service will be able to see your location and go into “Ghost mode” when you’d like to hide your location rather than share it. Your location is end-to-end encrypted.

The feature appears to work similarly to Snap’s Snap Map. It also appears to offer the ability to leave notes on the map itself, so you can let your friends know if you’ve stumbled on a fun event or are at the mall shopping for new jeans.

While Paluzzi was able to share screenshots of the feature, it’s still in progress and may or may not make it to the actual Instagram app.
