Christmas came early for iOS users: Twitter this week rolled out the ability to share tweets directly to Snapchat stories.
Simply open the Twitter app, choose a favorite tweet (from your own feed or someone else's), then tap the share button and look for the Snapchat ghost icon. Click to open the messaging program, where you can edit the auto-generated tweet sticker by adding photos, text, music, additional stickers, and more. Once shared, the Snap will link back to the Twitter conversation.
The feature comes less than a month after Twitter introduced its version of Snapchat's expiring posts. Another form of Instagram Stories, Fleets appear live for only 24 hours in a bar over the main timeline, allowing folks space to share, well, fleeting thoughts. Intended as a "low pressure" way to tackle social media, Fleets can be viewed but not retweeted, liked, or publicly replied to.
For those who don't have much of a Twitter following, or who just want to spread the love across platforms, sharing tweets to Snapchat is a great way to stay engaged.
"We're working on rolling this out for Twitter for Android soon," a company spokesperson told CNET. "In the coming days we'll be testing a similar integration with Instagram for a small group of people on iOS devices. We hope that these will be the first of many integrations of its kind." Twitter did not immediately respond to PCMag's request for comment.
Instagram could actually benefit from such a collaboration: The site is already overflowing with screenshotted tweets, set to a colorful background and posted on feeds and in stories. A similar "share to IG" button would save people a lot of creative energy.
