This powerful mobile office device looks good and gets the job done, but it could use a bit of a speed boost and a major price cut.

Nokia 9300 Closed Front

Closed, the Nokia 9300 appears to be a bulky but manageable candy-bar-style phone. The front display has a typical Nokia phone interface, letting you get to your address book and call list.

Nokia 9300 Open

Open up the Nokia 9300, and you have a full mini-laptop running the Symbian Series 80 operating system. The 640x200 screen is far sharper than most phone screens.

Nokia 9300 and Thumbs

The Nokia 9300's hinge bends, and stays, in various positions. You can sit it up on your desk, or bend it flat for more comfortable thumb-typing on the QWERTY keyboard.

Nokia 9300 Browser

The 9300's Opera browser is the best on any mobile platform, and the 640-pixel-wide screen helps the device display complex Web pages with aplomb.

Nokia 9300 Network Connection

The US version of the 9300 will connect to EDGE networks such as the one run by Cingular; those promise faster-than-dialup speeds, sometimes as high as 180 kbps/sec. The device comes with a Web browser and e-mail software.

Nokia 9300 PDF

The 9300 comes with a full complement of office software, including a PDF viewer that easily handled this French train schedule.

Nokia 9300 Back

The Nokia 9300's back is most notable for what it's missing: a camera. Under the battery door, an MMC card slot lurks.

Nokia 9300 Bottom

On the bottom of the Nokia 9300, a Pop-Port connector allows the device to take standard Nokia accessories like data cables and wired headsets. The 9300 can also hook up to Bluetooth headsets.
