PureEdge Lighting's Pure Smart TruColor A19 Wi-Fi Enabled Smart Bulb is the company’s latest addition to its expansive line of connected lighting fixtures and accessories. It’s an A19 bulb that displays more than 16 million colors and a range of warm and cool whites. The bulb offers an assortment of lighting effects and presets and works with numerous third-party smart home devices and automation platforms, and it’ll tell you how much power it is using. At $16 per bulb, the Pure Smart TruColor is competitively priced, but the AiDot Linkind Matter Smart Light Bulb ($16.99) offers broader interplatform compatibility for just a dollar more, so it remains our Editors’ Choice for color smart bulbs.
Design and Features: Customizable Lighting for Standard Fixtures
The Pure Smart TruColor is an A19 bulb with a traditional E26 screw-in base. It is 4.4 inches long and 2.4 inches wide and puts out 800 lumens, which is identical to the AiDot Linkind Matter Smart Light Bulb but not as bright as the 1,100-lumen Roku Smart Bulb SE Color ($9.88). It has a rated lifespan of 30,000 hours.
Like most RGB bulbs, the Pure Smart can display 16 million colors. It can also display whites with a tunable range of 1,500K (warm yellow) to 6,500K (cool blue). It has built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (2.4GHz) radios and therefore does not require a separate hub for connectivity.

It also supports IFTTT applets that allow it to interact with heaps of third-party devices. You can control the bulb using the WiZ Connected mobile app (free for Android or iOS) or with the WiZ Pro Dashboard, a web-based application that is more suited to commercial applications. Both the mobile app and the web dashboard offer reports that tell you how much power the bulb is using. PureEdge Lighting also sells a series of wall switches, including the Pure Smart Wi-Fi 120V Room Controller, that work with the bulb.
To access the bulb’s settings, open the app and tap the room where it is installed. This opens a screen with quick control buttons. It offers two groups of lighting presets: Basic (Cool, Daylight, Warm, and Warmest) and Functional (Cozy, Focus, Night Light, Plant Growth, Relax, True Colors, and TV Time). There’s a brightness slider at the bottom of the screen and three buttons labeled Color, Dynamic, and Static. The Static button makes the bulb behave according to your current settings or presets, and the Dynamic button lets you apply special lighting effects such as Candlelight, Christmas, Fireplace, Halloween, Snowy Sky, and more. Tap the Color button to adjust the bulb's hue using the color or white temperature palettes and a brightness slider.

The Automation button lets you create on/off schedules, set Circadian Rhythms that change the bulb's color temperature based on the time of day, and enable SpaceSense, which uses Wi-Fi motion sensing technology to turn lights on and off based on room occupancy. The SpaceSense feature analyzes changes in Wi-Fi signal strength and patterns as people move within a space to know whether the room is occupied or not.
The Library button opens a screen where you can create custom mood lighting scenes, enable Music Sync to have the bulb change colors to match the beat, and select a Static or Dynamic preset. The W button lets you turn all lights on or off with a single press, and the Discover button offers tips and access to the help center.
To see how much power the bulb is drawing, tap the three lines in the upper right corner of the Rooms screen, and then tap the Energy Consumption tab to view hourly, weekly, and monthly power usage statistics.
Installation and Performance: Fast Setup, Useful Automations
Installing the Pure Smart bulb is easy. I screwed the bulb into a lamp fixture, downloaded the WiZ Connected app, tapped Get Started, and created a new home account. I added a few rooms, tapped Start Setup on the Add Lights screen, and gave the app permission to access my location service and to use Bluetooth and my local network. The app immediately recognized the bulb, so I tapped Device Found, selected the bulb, and tapped Start. I assigned the bulb a room location, selected my Wi-Fi SSID, entered my password, and tapped Next. The bulb immediately paired, so I gave it a name, selected a startup mode (how the bulb behaves when turned on), and the installation was complete.
(Credit: PureEdge Lighting)The Pure Smart bulb worked well in my tests. The colors were bright and saturated, and the white color temperatures were appropriately warm and cool. The SpaceSense motion detection feature worked as intended, turning the bulb on when somebody entered the room and off after a set period of inactivity.
I had no trouble turning the bulb on and off and changing colors using the Alexa app and with Alexa voice commands. My Alexa routine to have the bulb turn red when a Ring Floodlight Cam detected motion worked every time, and the WiZ Connected app’s special lighting effects and schedules worked faultlessly.
