    MTV Games had a massive hit on its hands with the original Rock Band game, which added drums, bass, and a microphone to the winning Guitar Hero formula. Rock Band 2 keeps all the good parts of the original, but improves a bit on the instruments—the drum pads are a lot quieter, for instance—and offers a whole new tracklist. You can still play your favorite songs from the original Rock Band (for a one-time fee of $5), and you can add expansion packs to shape the game around your personal musical taste. The new No-Fail mode is one of our favorite additions, because it makes playing with beginners a lot more fun—a bad player won't make the whole band fail a song. The Special Edition version of Rock Band 2 includes a drum set, a guitar controller, and a microphone; all you need for a full band is a second guitar controller for your bass player.
