Front View
Once upon a time, Chromebooks were 11.6-inch laptops that cost $199. The Lenovo Chromebook C340-11 costs $269.99 in Sand Pink ($20 less in Platinum Grey), but it's a 2-in-1 convertible with twice the memory and storage of those pioneering products, not to mention the ability to run Android as well as Chrome OS apps.
Tent Mode
Two small hinges let you flip and fold the IPS touch screen into four operating positions or modes. Unfortunately, the display's 1,366 by 768 resolution and lackluster brightness and colors are disappointments.
Keyboard and Touchpad
It's not backlit, but the keyboard is comfortable, with a slightly shallow but snappy typing feel. The touchpad, like the touch screen, handles one- and two-finger taps (the latter is Chrome OS' equivalent of a right-click) smoothly.
Rear View
The C340-11 trades the all-plastic construction of last year's Lenovo Chromebook C330 for an aluminum lid. It also trades its predecessor's MediaTek ARM processor for a dual-core Intel Celeron N4000.
Left Ports
The laptop's left flank holds a USB Type-C port, a USB Type-A port, a microSD card slot, and an audio jack.
Right Ports
On the right, you'll find the power button, a volume rocker for use in tablet mode, another USB-A port, another USB-C port, and a security lock slot. The AC adapter plugs into either USB-C port.
Underside
The C340-11 is a compact 0.7 by 11.4 by 8.2 inches and weighs just 2.65 pounds. Its bottom-mounted speakers aren't hi-fi enough for enjoying music.
