Pros & Cons

The Corsair Professional Series Gold AX1200 ($299.99 list) is a power supply designed to provide up to 1,200 watts of power to a desktop computer.

Unlike many power supplies, the AX1200 is fully modular, meaning all of its cables detach.  This provides you with the maximum amount of flexibility when designing your computer for purposes of cleanliness and airflow; if you want to swap out your power supply later, you can do so without having to do undo your cabling.

The AX1200 supports the latest ATX12V v2.31 and EPS 2.92 standards (and is backward compatible with ATX12V 2.2 and 2.01), and is equipped with a 140mm double ball-bearing fan.  It utilizes a single dedicated +12V rail, and can connect up to two EPS plugs, six PCI Express (PCIe) plugs, 12 four-pin Molex plugs, two floppy connectors, and 16 SATA connectors.

Corsair also touts the Professional Series Gold AX1200's 80 Plus Gold certification, and claims that it is 90 percent efficient at 50 percent load, so that it runs more quietly, generates less excess heat, and saves you money over the life of your system. The AX1200 has an MTBF rating of 100,000 hours.
