One of the difficult/annoying tasks when building a desktop computer is cable management. Seasonic is attempting to make it easier by rethinking the design of the power supply (PSU) and turning it into two devices instead of one.
PSU cable management was made easier with the introduction of modular cables, which allowed you to only plug in the cables required for your setup. Even so, it still resulted in a mess of cables inside your case and around the PSU. But as Tom's Hardware reports, the Seasonic SSR-750FA Connect PSU takes a different approach. It's still modular, but all the connectors are housed in a separate device connected to the PSU by a single cable.
This secondary tall and thin Connect device can be positioned behind your motherboard and mounted using magnets. By doing so, the area around the PSU remains free of cables and therefore allows for better airflow. All the modular power cables can then be slotted through from the back of the case where needed for each component requiring power, but all the connectors and more of the cables remain hidden from view.
The SSR-750FA Connect is a ATX 12V 750W modular PSU certified as 80 PLUS Gold. A hybrid fan control design means it remains fanless up to a 40 percent load, while it's also capable of handling a multi-graphics card setup and ships with a 10 year warranty.
Seasonic has been teasing the Connect for a long time, but what we still don't know yet is the price or when it will start shipping it. We'd also really appreciate Seasonic compiling a case compatibility guide before it does launch.
