With more phones and tablets coming out with USB-C ports, there still aren't very many battery packs that support the new standard. At $99.95, the Mophie Powerstation USB-C isn't the least expensive backup battery on the market, but it does have something that most of the competition lacks: a USB-C port for input and output. It also supports fast charging and pass-through charging, and its 10,000mAh capacity offers plenty of extra power. If you don't need USB-C, however, the Anker Powercore 10000 will save you a substantial amount of money.

Design and Features

The Powerstation USB-C follows Mophie's traditional design language, featuring a stylish aluminum finish on the front and back, and a strip of black plastic along the sides. Measuring 5.2 by 2.7 by 0.6 inches (HWD) and 7.8 ounces, it's larger and heavier than the PowerCore (3.9 by 2.5 by 0.9 inches, 7 ounces) despite offering the same battery capacity. But it's still not especially big compared with the Monoprice Select Series Power Bank (5.4 by 2.4 by 0.9 inches, 9.3 ounces), and while it won't be comfortable to carry in your pocket, you can easily tote it around in a backpack or purse.

On the top you'll find one standard USB charging port that outputs you at 5V/2A and is capable of both pass-through and fast charging (Mophie batteries support a generic fast charging standard that isn't specific to Qualcomm Quick Charge or Samsung Fast Charge devices). The USB-C port next to it can be used for both charging the battery itself or another device, outputting at 5V/3A.

Four white LEDs on the left side indicate battery level when you press the Power Indicator button beneath them. The LEDs blink when charging. There's no power button; charging starts automatically when your device is plugged in. The battery comes with a USB-C-to-USB-A cable and a micro USB-to-USB-C cable.

Performance and Conclusions

The Powerstation USB-C has a 10,000mAh cell inside, letting it charge most phones three times over with juice left to spare, or you can power up many tablets twice. I was able to charge the ZTE Axon 7 to full in roughly 1 hour, 45 minutes, thanks to fast charging.

The battery itself performed well in our rundown test, clocking 18 hours, 22 minutes when we connected it to a depleted Axon 7 and streamed full-screen video over LTE at maximum brightness. That's not as much added battery life as the PowerCore (23 hours, 40 minutes), but it's an hour better than the Monoprice Select Series (17 hours, 16 minutes).

The Mophie Powerstation USB-C is an attractive battery pack that stands out thanks to its USB-C port. That said, you're paying a hefty premium for it. USB-C device owners will be happy with the Powerstation, but everyone else will be just fine paying less than half the price for the Anker PowerCore 10000, our Editors' Choice.
