Groupon has expanded its mobile offerings to include a mobile app that lets merchants set up deals, manage transactions, and view real-time analytics to better target customers. Grouon POS can work alone as an iPad app, or in tandem with an optional cash drawer and receipt printer to handle credit and cash transactions. Merchants can create/edit items their menu, and quickly customize customer orders.
Groupon also offers a dongle that lets merchants accept payments via iPhone or Android smartphone.
Groupon is already very familiar to consumers looking for a deal, so the brand is hoping name recognition will give it a boost as the POS offering for mobile merchants is nothing new and is already populated by heavy hitters like Square and PayPal. The ability to quickly create Groupon deals may be the advantage that lets them make up ground lost by just now getting into the game versus its competitors who dove in a year or so ago.
