SMUG RFIP chip coffee mug.JPGStarbucks cups may have become ubiquitous, but Marquette University student Chris Hallberg has a green upgrade. His smart coffee mug--the "Smug"--features an RFID chip that stores a customer's order history and account information. With it, frequent coffee drinkers could breeze through an automated system--no wallets, and, if you have a favorite, particularly complicated order, it could also save time when you order.

Granted, there are already plenty of low-tech, non-paper, non-styrofoam cups out there. But a high-tech mug might be the push that some drinkers would need to switch to a cup that actually needs to be washed. At the moment, Smug Coffee is soon to be available at the Wisconsin coffee chain Stone Creek Coffee, but it's hoping to expand. (via grngdgt.com)
