After the massive success of Netflix’s Squid Game, series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk has confirmed that season two is in the works.

At an event honoring the show in Los Angeles, Hwang and Lee Jung-jae, who plays Squid Game protagonist Seong Gi-hun, spoke with the Associated Press about a potential second season.

“There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. I almost feel like you leave us no choice,” Hwang told the AP. “But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently.”

The Korean survival drama started production in 2019 and became one of Netflix’s biggest shows on the platform when it premiered in September.

In late October, Hwang told The Guardian that he has "a very high-level picture in my mind [of season two], but I'm not going to work on it straight away." He has his sights on a film, tentatively called KO Club, short for Killing Old Men Club, he told Variety.

The viral success of Squid Game, however, may require him to get cracking on season two soon. Whatever it turns into, "I will promise you this…Gi-Hun will come back, and he will do something for the world," Hwang told the AP.

Until then, Netflix is streaming three of Hwang's South Korean feature films: SilencedSilenced, Miss GrannyMiss Granny, and The FortressThe Fortress. You can catch Lee Jung-jae, meanwhile, in Svaha: The Sixth FingerSvaha: The Sixth Finger. The streaming service also has a few suggestions for addictive Korean shows to try next.
