Sony Interactive Entertainment may be laser-focused on publishing for PlayStation-branded hardware, but Sony Music Entertainment is clearly free to publish on rival platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.

As PlayStation.Lifestyle reports, today Sony Music Entertainment announced that is was forming a new game publishing label called Unties. Under this label, a range of indie titles will be published across PS4, PC, and Switch platforms. The first of those titles is Tiny Metal by developer Area 35, which will be released for Switch, PS4, Windows, and Mac OSX.

The official press release (in Japanese) explains that the Unties label is possible because, "Recent progress in the game development world has made it possible for even small-scale production teams to create high-quality games." But the side effect of this is games getting "buried in the market." Unties wants to offer games it sees as having great potential the exposure needed to not get buried.

Other titles listed below the press release include a 3D fighting game called Last Standard, a desert racing/combat game called Merkava Avalanche, and DEEMO Reborn, which looks to be a PS4 title with support for PlayStation VR.

It's not surprising that a new gaming label looking to publish indie titles would opt to support Switch, and especially so in Japan where the Switch is selling out more than any other major market. The Switch is certainly showing the potential to be a huge seller for Nintendo and a future threat for Sony and Microsoft. As a new publishing label Unties needs to target platforms where the gamers are, and Switch is certainly one of them.
