You can easily open or jump into a hunting party through either local ad-hoc Wi-Fi or over the Internet. In fact, there's an entire separate campaign of dozens of hunting missions in the Gathering Hall part of the game, which dictates your Hunter's Rank and lets you meet with up to three other hunters before heading out on a hunt.

You can spend all of your time in the Gathering Hall and get better equipment and a higher rank that way without touching the Caravan quests after the first few hunts of the game.

A black dragon, Gore Magala, is infecting monsters everywhere with a frenzy virus, and you've joined the Caravan to figure out how to stop it.

The real beauty of the Insect Glaive is the ability to leap into the air to jump on monsters' backs to take them down.

It's all about the Monster Hunter Cycle. You fight monsters. You get loot. You use loot to get better equipment. You fight more dangerous monsters with your better equipment. You get new loot.

Giant monsters have more difficult variants, and there are versions infected with the frenzy virus, which changes their attacks.

Combat is in third-person, with a very deliberate and slow rate of character movement.
