How can you make a smart speaker stand out in a crowded market? Belkin decided to partner with audio experts and include wireless charging on its new Soundform Elite Hi-Fi Smart Speaker in a bid to grab our attention.

Unveiled at CES this week, the Soundform Elite is Belkin's bid to combine a Hi-Fi system, a smart speaker, and a charging device. In order to offer a high-quality audio experience, a partnership was formed with French audio technology company Devialet, which is well-known for its Phantom speakers and Expert amplifiers. Because of this partnership, the Soundform Elite includes Speaker Active Matching (SAM) technology, which is explained in the video below.

At maximum volume the speaker achieves 90 decibels, but you may want to turn it down when using the integrated Google Voice Assistant. Belkin says as well as answering your questions and playing music, you can also link to other Google Assistant-enabled speakers for a multi-room experience as well as controlling other smart home devices.

As for wireless charging, the Soundform Elite includes a cradle for your smartphone enabling it to automatically start charging wirelessly, assuming your smartphone supports the feature. Belkin uses "Push-Push" technology to ensure any vibrations created by the speaker are canceled out ensuring your phone never moves as it charges in the cradle.

The Soundform Elite will be available in either white or black and is expected to start shipping in March. It's possible to pre-order the speaker right now direct from Belkin for $299.99.
