Today, Ford Motor Company announced a partnership with SHFT.com, a multi-media organization that focuses on sustainability. It's part of Ford's continuing efforts to get its green technology initiatives out in front of consumers.

SHFT.com founders Adrian Grenier (yes, the one from Entourage) and Peter Glatzer gave a brief talk about their mission and partnership with Ford, which aims to provide consumers with more environmentally-friendly purchasing choices.

<p"There's no prescriptive way to lighten your footprint," Glatzer said. "Everybody needs to make their own choices, and this is where we share a lot of core values with what Ford's doing right now."

Referencing the five Ford vehicles that offer either electric or hybrid technology, Glatzer said, "It costs about $2 per day to charge these cars, which is what it costs for a cup of coffee."

Grenier corrected him by saying, "It's actually a third of a cup of coffee in New York."

The partnership between SHFT.com and Ford will result in a film series on innovation, delivered on multiple platforms, including Virgin America's in-flight entertainment system.

The event, held at Root Studios in Manhattan, provided hands-on time with the new Ford Focus electric and hybrid electric vehicles, along with the materials and technology that live inside the car. New EV features include carpeting made out of 25 water bottles and seat material that is constructed out of post-industrial yarns and cotton made from blue jeans. These materials are already inside Ford vehicles on the market and will be standard on the EV, which will be available by early 2012. They'll also be available to rent, through Zipcar.com.
