Just weeks after Verizon announced a partnership with YouTube TV as part of its new Fios Mix and Match program, the company is once again partnering with Google. On January 29, Verizon will begin to offer free cloud-based gaming via Google Stadia to it Fios customers.

New Fios Gigabit internet subscribers will receive receive a free Google Stadia Premier Edition package. The package includes a three-month subscription to Google Stadia Pro, a Chromecast Ultra, and a Stadia controller.

There are a few caveats in order to qualify for the deal. The promotion is only available to new Fios gigabit subscribers who haven't signed up for Google Stadia. If you cancel Fios service during the trial, your Stadia subscription ends as well. And if you're not a fan of Stadia, you can cancel the subscription at any time and keep the controller and Chromecast Ultra; otherwise you'll be billed $9.99 per month for service after the first three months.

For some background, Google's Stadia service got off to a rocky start last fall, reflected by the 2.5-star rating we gave it in our review. Instead of relying on a dedicated console like the PS4 or Xbox One, Stadia uses high-speed internet and a controller to let you play on your existing hardware. The service currently supports gameplay via television (with a Chromecast), laptop, or a handful of smartphones and tablets.
