There are many apps for troubleshooting what may be one of the biggest of all tech woes: slow network connectivity. Unfortunately, useful Wi-Fi and Internet-bandwidth troubleshooting apps for less-technical users are scarce. The better apps and software are typically geared towards IT professionals and advanced users. Cloudcheck (free) is one of the latest apps to try to help average users troubleshoot their wireless and Internet connection problems. The app offers one feature that may be of some use—a tool that detects a strong Wi-Fi signal—but it's not of much assistance otherwise. Cloudcheck is available for Android and iOS; this review focuses on the Android app.

Cloudcheck is currently working on an Indiegogo project designed to give broadband subscribers a clearer understanding of the quality of their Internet and Wi-Fi connections. The developers tout it as "Wi-Fi and broadband diagnostics for the masses." And that's a lofty goal. It's expected to launch in July. In the meanwhile, Cloudcheck has launched this Android app (and the iOS app) that is designed to measure your broadband speed and pinpoint the location of your network's best Wi-Fi performance.

Installation and Availability
Cloudcheck is on Google Play as a 1.6MB download. It supports devices running Android 2.2 and up. I tried installing it on an HTC One smartphone that runs the KitKat 4.4 version of the operating system, but I was unable to select my HTC One to install from Google Play. The company confirmed that the product is not yet available across all makes and models of Android devices. I did manage to download it to and get it running on a tablet associated with my Google account—a Nexus 7
