Besides the speed bump, all of the touch's changes are software-based. The existing Genius feature in
Another Genius update is Genius Mix. Just as Genius can create custom playlists for you, now it organizes your music into "mixes" based on genre. Folk songs get grouped together, as do Jazz or Hard Rock, but eventually the Genius Mix feature has the ability to become more granular as more users contribute data by syncing their iPods. While this is a cool feature, it's not a groundbreaking one. Even so, it's another fun way to enjoy your music, so whether or not it's particularly innovative hardly matters.

For those who'd hoped for the inclusion of a still camera or video recorder, or for a dashing leap to a 128GB capacity, they'll have to settle for some extra speed and useful-if-modest software improvements in the latest iPod touch.
