If you purchased Powerbeats 2 and found them to be lacking in the battery and sweat-resistance departments, Apple could owe you some money.
As AppleInsider reports, Apple has reached a $9.75 million settlement in a case that dates back to 2017. At issue are Apple's claims that its earphones were sweat- and water-resistant and offered up to 12 hours of battery life. Some buyers, however, found that wasn’t the case and they filed a class-action suit against Cupertino.
Apple tried to get the case dismissed, but it was allowed to proceed. While the company denies any wrongdoing, it has agreed to settle. Users who experienced Powerbeats 2 problems must submit, via mail or online, a claims form by before 11:59 p.m. PT on Nov. 20. To be eligible, you must have purchased your Powerbeats 2 earphones not for resale before Aug. 7, 2020.
Individual payouts could be as much as $76 if you can provide proof of purchase and $38 if you cannot, AppleInsider says. (The earphones initially cost $199.95).
How much you actually get will depend on how many people file claims. Lawyers are also asking for $3.7 million of the $9.75 million pot, a sizable third.
