Get ready for a new flagship smartphone. Samsung's next Unpacked event will take place on Jan. 22 at 10 a.m. PT in San Jose, California.

It will be livestreamed on both Samsung.com and the company's YouTube channel. If the naming conventions and lineup remain consistent from last year, expect to see a Galaxy S25, an S25 Plus, and an S Pen-equipped Galaxy S25 Ultra.

"The new Galaxy S series is about to set the bar once again for mobile AI experiences now and into the future," Samsung says.

A video teaser for the event starts with four devices up against each other with a blue light shining through a four-point, star-shaped cavity. The camera zooms into the lit section and a microphone appears on screen. A perky voice then says" "Hey, when is the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked?" The date is shown on screen and the voice continues: "Can you put it on my calendar?" The video ends with an animated Galaxy AI logo.

There are a few things that can be gleaned from the short promo video. The devices in the video all have rounded corners, which could give credence to the rumors that the Galaxy S25 Ultra will ditch its squared-off corners for a more hand-friendly curve. The four-point start resembles the Google Gemini logo, though the interface shown does not look like the current version of Gemini.

Samsung is all in with Galaxy AI, its suite of AI tools, which also includes Circle to Search with Google. These two companies have partnered on a number of endeavors over the years. Perhaps the blue star hints at new Gemini integration. Otherwise, the microphone interface could hint at a new version of Samsung's homegrown assistant Bixby.

To drum up further interest, Samsung is running a promotion that lets you reserve the latest Galaxy S device and receive a $50 credit as a gift. That credit cannot be applied to the Galaxy S, but can be used for other products purchased at the same time. This promo runs until Jan. 22, the date of the Unpacked event.

My Experience

I've been into technology for as long as I can remember. As a PCMag mobile writer, I get to test the newest phones and tablets. Since you rely on our buying advice, I make sure you get everything a manufacturer claims, which means lots of testing. This is your phone we're talking about; it's like a part of you. I've covered technology as a career for around two decades (yikes, I had to think about that). You've seen my work at The Apple Blog, PCMag (from my first go around), This Week in Tech, and CNET. I also occasionally produce independent video projects, including This Old Nerd, a how-to series that shows practical ways to get the most from your tech.

The Technology I Use

I use a 2023 M3 MacBook Pro customized with lots of keyboard shortcuts thanks to Raycast. Pixelmator Pro is my go-to photo editing application because there is no subscription, and I'm trapped with Evernote because I've used it forever.

I'm between phones at the moment, but I use a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 now, and used a Z Fold 6 before that. Considering that I like to have multiple windows open at once, the large inner screen of folding phones can show a baseball game on the top while I keep a chat app and Reddit open beneath. I do miss being able to write on the Z Fold 7's screen, though, which has me eyeing a Galaxy S25 Ultra.

My home is semi-smart, with many Google Home products that I thoroughly enjoyed in the pre-Gemini days. Be warned: smart bulbs are a gateway drug into smart home life.
