iPhone 16 Pro Battery Redesign Leaks

Leaked images reveal Apple is redesigning the battery destined to ship inside every iPhone 16 Pro.

As MacRumors reports, the leak comes in the form of multiple images from a leaker by the name of Kosutami, who has shared accurate information on Apple's devices before.

The images show a battery with a capacity of 3,355mAh (13.02Wh), a frosted metal shell, and a redesigned battery connector. For reference, the iPhone 15 Pro ships with a 3,274mAh battery, so Apple is increasing the capacity for the iPhone 16 Pro slightly.

The frosted metal shell replaces the black foil casing used on previous-generation iPhones. It's a switch Apple made for the Apple Watch in order to improve the thermal performance without adding weight, and it looks as though the same is happening for the next iPhone. Apple is also thought to be switching from a copper to a graphene heatsink to help with heat dissipation.

It should come as no surprise that dealing with heat is a focus of the iPhone 16 design after the overheating problems Apple recently faced with the iPhone 15 Pro. And this could be the last traditional battery Apple uses inside an iPhone, because from 2025 it's expected to start using a custom next-generation battery instead.
