It doesn't feel like fall yet in most of the country but it's still Apple-picking time. That is, it's time to pre-order the new iPhone lineup.

All of the iPhone 15 phones (iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max) have USB-C charging and the Dynamic Island, which exchanges the unsightly notch for an interactive bar. The iPhone 15 and 15 Plus now have a textured matte finish and contoured edges, while the Pro models get a titanium upgrade.

One thing that has mostly stayed the same is the price. Except for the Pro Max, it's all the same as the last iPhone drop. The 6.1-inch iPhone 15 is $799 for 128GB and the 6.7-inch iPhone 15 Plus is $899. The iPhone 15 Pro starts at $999, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max now starts at $1,199.

These are, of course, the latest iPhones, so there aren’t any discounts per se. But there are definitely ways to save. You can trade in your old phone, sign on for a carrier payment plan, and see if you qualify for bill credits. Here's what you need to know to get the best deal.

Pre-Order Times

Pre-orders begin at 5 a.m. PT on Sept. 15 for all of the phones and they'll be in stores on Sept. 22.

Pre-Order From Apple

Apple will sell the iPhone 14 via apple.com/store, the Apple Store app, and in Apple Stores. You can pay full price or in installments. Prices go up depending on how much storage you select, and Apple offers trade-ins if you want to swap an older iPhone for a new one. The iPhone 15 starts at $799 before trade-in or $33.29 a month for 24 months; iPhone 15 Plus is $899 or $37.45 a month; iPhone 15 Pro is $999 or $41.62 a month; and iPhone 15 Pro Max is $1,199 or $49.95 a month.

Pre-Order From AT&T

New and existing customers of AT&T can get the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro for free with an eligible trade-in. The iPhone 15 Plus is $830 off with an eligible trade-in and the Pro Max is $1,000 off with an eligible trade-in.

  • Pick up any iPhone 15 series and get $700 off the second one when adding a line on almost all T-Mobile plans.

Pre-Order From Verizon

If you pick an Unlimited Plus or Unlimited Welcome plan, you can get $830 or $415 off the new iPhone 15 lineup, respectively, with an iPhone trade-in.

Existing Verizon customers looking to upgrade without adding a new line can get up to $830 off the iPhone 15 lineup with qualified trade-ins and select Unlimited plans.

My Experience

My title is Senior Features Writer, which is a license to write about absolutely anything if I can connect it to technology (I can). I’ve been at PCMag since 2011 and have covered the surveillance state, vaccination cards, ghost guns, voting, ISIS, art, fashion, film, design, gender bias, and more. You might have seen me on TV talking about these topics or heard me on your commute home on the radio or a podcast. Or maybe you’ve just seen my Bernie meme

I strive to explain topics that you might come across in the news but not fully understand, such as NFTs and meme stocks. I’ve had the pleasure of talking tech with Jeff Goldblum, Ang Lee, and other celebrities who have brought a different perspective to it. I put great care into writing gift guides and am always touched by the notes I get from people who’ve used them to choose presents that have been well-received. Though I love that I get to write about the tech industry every day, it’s touched by gender, racial, and socioeconomic inequality and I try to bring these topics to light.

Outside of PCMag, I write fiction, poetry, humor, and essays on culture.

My Areas of Expertise

  • Making incomprehensible tech news easy to understand
  • Expanding the boundaries of topics covered in the industry
  • Figuring out tips and tricks in apps and on devices and letting you know about them
  • Putting together gift guides for everyone in your life

The Technology I Use

All that gadgets is gold for me: my iPhone 11 Pro, my fifth-generation iPad that I use only for streaming videos and music, my iPad mini 4 that I like to take with me whenever I carry a bag that can fit it, and my MacBook Pro. Why are they all different shades of gold, though? What’s going on, Apple?

None of them quite live up to my two past loves: my LG Lotus LX600 phone and my Sony Walkman NW-E005 MP3 player.

I've never given up wired earbuds so I was ahead of all those trend pieces. I use a Mangotek Lightning-to-3.5mm headphone jack adapter to connect them to my phone.

I have had so many ebook readers, but I prefer paper to them all. Still, my Kindle Paperwhite is perfect for traveling or when I’m too impatient to wait for a book to be released in paperback.
