Google is set to unveil its next Pixel smartphone on Oct. 4, but in an unsurprising move, the company has already leaked details about its soon-to-be-released device.
On Wednesday, Google posted an image of the Pixel 8 Pro on its Google Store page. It was first reported by Mishaal Rahman on Twitter, who received a tip from @android_setting.
The image offered a clear view of the back of the Pixel 8 Pro. How do we know the name? The image included alt-text that described it as "a person takes a call on a Pixel 8 Pro phone in Porcelain." Google quickly took down the image, but not before the image was captured and circulated on the internet.
We'll get our first official look at Google's next-gen Pixels at a New York City event on Oct. 4, where Google says it will "introduce the latest additions to our Pixel portfolio of devices."
The leaked image, meanwhile, aligns closely with prior renders of the Pixel 8 Pro. As Mashable notes, rumors tip the usual chip and camera upgrades, as well as up to 12GB of RAM.
It's not the first time Google's upcoming devices have leaked. Details about the Pixel 7a dropped ahead of its Google I/O 2023 reveal, while Google itself revealed the Pixel Fold ahead of the same event. It may seem like a curious strategy, but it also gets people talking about Google Pixel smartphones on the same day that Apple announced its iPhone 15 event for Sept. 12. (Google even jokes about Apple being late to the game in the video above with the rumored addition of USB-C on its next-gen smartphones.)
