You bought the iPhone 13 Pro Max because you like a bigger phone. But big phones take big falls. You're going to need a case that can protect the phone, particularly since it can cost up to $1,599 and has some serious camera lenses. This list has lots of options depending on your needs. There's one case that keeps the camera covered when not in use, a couple of options that strap your phone right to you, and one that has a handle built right in. Of course you could be the type who barely wants a case at all, and in that case we also have you covered.

Casely Wild West Adventure Desert Case

Casely Wild West Advencture Desert Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

The Western toile of the Casely Wild West Adventure Desert Case is distinctive, dare we say, bold. Speaking of which, this is Casely's Bold model, which means it has extra protection all around and slide-resistant side grips.

Case-Mate Brilliance Chandelier Case

Case-Mate Brilliance Chandelier Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

The Case-Mate Brilliance Chandelier Case shines bright like a diamond because it's bedecked with over 800 crystals. But they don't stand in the way of wireless charging.

Case-Mate Wallet Folio

Case-Mate Wallet Folio (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

Carry it all with the Case-Mate Wallet Folio. The wallet and case in one saves space in your pockets and works with MagSafe accessories.

Casetify PP-0008 Case

Casetify PP-0008 Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

The Casetify PP-0008 Case looks like it can arrive without any packaging. The label look on Casetify's most protective case is from Pangram Pangram, a font foundry, and it features impact-absorbent corner protection.

Flaunt Neon Orange Square Phone Case

Flaunt Neon Orange Square Phone Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

Your phone already stands out for its size, but you can make sure it really gets noticed (and that you don't spend lots of time searching for it) with this Flaunt Neon Orange Square Phone Case. The case also has the benefit of not adding a lot of bulk.

Lifeproof Wake Case

Lifeproof Wake Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

From the name to the pattern on the back, it's clear that the Lifeproof Wake Case has the ocean on its mind. That's because it's composed of over 85% ocean-based recycled plastic.

Moshi Altra Slim Hardshell Case With Strap

Moshi Altra Slim Hardshell Case With Strap (for iPhone Pro Max)

A wrist strap sets the Moshi Altra Slim Hardshell Case apart. It's handy when you want to be hands-free and detaches for when you don't.

Mous Limitless 4.0 Bamboo Case

Mous Limitless 4.0 Bamboo Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

The Mujjo Full Leather Case wraps your phone's buttons in leather and has a raised rear camera bump for a bit of extra protection.

Nomad Modern Leather Case

Nomad Modern Leather Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

If you're into a leather case that will age gracefully, consider the Nomad Modern Leather Case. The Horween leather weathers over time. It also works with MagSafe accessories.

OtterBox Defender Series Pro Case

OtterBox Defender Series Pro Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

The OtterBox Defender Series Pro Case is rugged and 50% recycled. Port covers block dust and dirt, and it comes with a holster that lets you carry it on a belt or that works as a kickstand.

OtterBox Otter + Pop Symmetry Series Antimicrobial Case

OtterBox Otter + Pop Symmetry Series Antimicrobial Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

Speck Presidio Perfect-Mist Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

The Speck Presidio Perfect-Mist Case has a soft-touch finish but goes hard when it comes to keeping your phone safe from scratches and drops.

Tech21 Evo Max Case

Tech21 Evo Max Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

The Tech21 Evo Max Case goes the extra mile (well, 20 feet) when it comes to drop protection. It also has an uncommon feature in its sliding camera cover.

Totallee Super Thin Case

Totallee Super Thin Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

The Totallee Super Thin Case is not the case to turn to if you want the ultimate (or even average) in protection, but it is ultralight, ultrathin, and does keep your phone free of scratches and has a slightly raised lip around the camera.

UAG Civilian Series Case

UAG Civilian Series Case (for iPhone 13 Pro Max)

The UAG Civilian Series Case takes its duty of protecting your phone seriously. It offers drop protection up to 20 feet and has hex cushioning inside its shell.

My Experience

My title is Senior Features Writer, which is a license to write about absolutely anything if I can connect it to technology (I can). I’ve been at PCMag since 2011 and have covered the surveillance state, vaccination cards, ghost guns, voting, ISIS, art, fashion, film, design, gender bias, and more. You might have seen me on TV talking about these topics or heard me on your commute home on the radio or a podcast. Or maybe you’ve just seen my Bernie meme

I strive to explain topics that you might come across in the news but not fully understand, such as NFTs and meme stocks. I’ve had the pleasure of talking tech with Jeff Goldblum, Ang Lee, and other celebrities who have brought a different perspective to it. I put great care into writing gift guides and am always touched by the notes I get from people who’ve used them to choose presents that have been well-received. Though I love that I get to write about the tech industry every day, it’s touched by gender, racial, and socioeconomic inequality and I try to bring these topics to light.

Outside of PCMag, I write fiction, poetry, humor, and essays on culture.

My Areas of Expertise

  • Making incomprehensible tech news easy to understand
  • Expanding the boundaries of topics covered in the industry
  • Figuring out tips and tricks in apps and on devices and letting you know about them
  • Putting together gift guides for everyone in your life

The Technology I Use

All that gadgets is gold for me: my iPhone 11 Pro, my fifth-generation iPad that I use only for streaming videos and music, my iPad mini 4 that I like to take with me whenever I carry a bag that can fit it, and my MacBook Pro. Why are they all different shades of gold, though? What’s going on, Apple?

None of them quite live up to my two past loves: my LG Lotus LX600 phone and my Sony Walkman NW-E005 MP3 player.

I've never given up wired earbuds so I was ahead of all those trend pieces. I use a Mangotek Lightning-to-3.5mm headphone jack adapter to connect them to my phone.

I have had so many ebook readers, but I prefer paper to them all. Still, my Kindle Paperwhite is perfect for traveling or when I’m too impatient to wait for a book to be released in paperback.
