An updated version of Google Wallet hit Google Play on Wednesday, featuring a new icon, sleeker design, and more functions.

First reported by Android Central, the app now sports a green background and a home screen with the familiar options for sending and requesting money. An activity stream below highlights the sender or recipient, amount, and date.

"The new Google Wallet makes it easy to send money to anyone in the U.S. with an email address, even if they don't have an existing Wallet account," the product page said. "It's fast, easy, and free to send money directly from your debit card, bank account, or Wallet balance."

The update comes ahead of the launch of Android Pay, which is essentially Google's version of Apple Pay. Why have two services? Google Wallet will remain largely to let people keep balances and send money to one another. Android Pay is "coming soon," according to Google.

On the new app, tap the menu for a list of actions, including viewing Wallet cards and balance, locking or cancelling a card, and adding money. For the fiscally challenged, the new app lets you add a set amount to your Wallet Balance, or set up a recurring bank account transfer. Keep track of your transactions in the app or online, or cash out money in the Wallet Balance using a debit card or linked bank account.

The built-in Google Wallet Card lets you spend money received through the app, compatible at "millions" of U.S. locations where Debit MasterCard is accepted. Also use it to withdraw cash from ATMs.

As Android Central pointed out, the app—dubbed Google Wallet (New)—is a separate download in the Google Play store, and can be installed and run alongside the old Wallet app.
