During Mojang Studios' recent Minecraft Live presentation, the company announced that Minecraft has officially crossed over 131 million monthly active users.

The number has steadily increased over the course of the global coronavirus pandemic, likely due to the increased tendency to stay home to avoid getting sick.

"Since the start of the pandemic, we've seen an increase of nearly 90% in multiplayer sessions and our community has grown to nearly 132 million players each month," Mojang noted.

In addition to its explosive monthly growth, Mojang also announced that players all over the world, in every country and territory, have enjoyed Minecraft in 2020 alone.

With Minecraft Dungeons in the wild, offering players another way to enjoy the same Minecraft characters and conventions in another gaming space. Teams get to group up and attack various enemies throughout a series of dungeons.

In just 2020 alone, Mojang Studios originally announced that Minecraft had just passed 200 million copies sold. Back then, the game had just 126 million active users in the year alone. This growth can likely be attributed to the addition of spinoff games and other Minecraft-centric content being released over the course of the last chick.

Interest in Minecraft is likely about to skyrocket even more, now that Minecraft Steve has been announced as the newest character to have been added to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster. It looks like these player numbers could go up as new players explore Minecraft after encountering Steve in the massively popular Nintendo title.
