Regional restrictions are a pain, and with ISPs playing fast and loose with customer data, it's natural to want some protection. Proton has officially launched its VPN app on Apple TV to help users do just that.

"Today, we're excited to release the Proton VPN Apple TV app," Proton VPN Product Lead Antonio Cesarano said in a blog post. "Among the most requested features from our community, this app allows you to easily and securely watch your favorite shows, films, and sports events on your big-screen TV via your Apple TV, no matter where you are."

At launch, Apple TV users will have access to 8,500 servers and 112 countries, allowing them to avoid region locks and enjoy the full spectrum of perks that comes with using a VPN. Proton says that the service is offered to its premium users, so you'll need a subscription to use it. It is compatible with all major streaming services.

All you need is a Proton VPN account to get started. Once you have one, go to protonvpn.com/appletv, log in with your credentials, and enter the code on your Apple TV. After that, you'll be able to configure your VPN and watch whatever you want. There is also a "fastest country" option if you want the fastest possible connection for your location.

Proton VPN is the latest VPN on Apple TV after the platform opened up to VPNs in June 2023. Many providers have since added their services, including popular entrants like ExpressVPN and NordVPN. Proton VPN competes favorably with these services, garnering a rare perfect score in PCMag's review.

In addition to the Apple TV app, Proton VPN is now available on the Apple Vision Pro as well. In a separate announcement, Proton VPN General Manager said the releases is "an important step in Proton's mission to help all users take control of their data on every platform and device."

Hello, my name is Joe and I am a tech blogger. My first real experience with tech came at the tender age of 6 when I started playing Final Fantasy IV (II on the SNES) on the family's living room console. As a teenager, I cobbled together my first PC build using old parts from several ancient PCs, and really started getting into things in my 20s. I served in the US Army as a broadcast journalist. Afterward, I served as a news writer for XDA-Developers before I spent 11 years as an Editor, and eventually Senior Editor, of Android Authority. I specialize in gaming, mobile tech, and PC hardware, but I enjoy pretty much anything that has electricity running through it.
