Certain Time Warner Cable customers who want to cut down on set-top box clutter can now swap their cable box for a Roku streaming player.

Participants will get a Roku 3 and access to TWC's 300-plus live TV channels and 20,000 video-on-demand choices, as well as subscription services like Netflix and Hulu.

"The TWC TV Roku Trial represents an important step in our evolution, giving customers more ways to view the content they love in ways that work for them," Peter Stern, Time Warner Cable executive vice president, said in a statement.

The service is aimed at subscribers of TWC's Extreme (or higher) Internet; sorry cord cutters, the pilot requires customers to subscribe to the company's video service. Those in New York City, Mt. Vernon, and New Jersey can choose to add Time Warner Cable TV service to receive the same packages delivered to cable-box users.

"This trial will help us build a better experience for our customers, while making cable television programming even more affordable, accessible, and relevant to a new generation of consumers," Stern said.

Roku users in the U.K., meanwhile, can now tap into Amazon Video's library of 50,000-plus movies and TV episodes. Anyone can rent or buy, while Prime members can stream more than 15,000 programs. This week's addition brings British viewers access to all major services like Netflix, Google Play Movies, Sky Store, and NOW TV, plus all major TV catch-up channels like BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4, and Demand 5.

Binge watch Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead, or settle in for family movie night in front of Minion and Kingsmen: The Secret Service. Prime Members can also watch Amazon exclusives Transparent, Ripper Street, Outlander, Vikings, and Mr. Robot.
