Online Extra

Although it has gradually morphed from a boxing simulation to an arcade-style play over the years, Knockout Kings 2002 is better than ever. Graphics are fantastic: You can see bruises, cuts, and black eyes thanks to EA's face-mapping technology, which uses more than 30 points on the face to render expressions and damage throughout the fight. Spectacular slow-motion knock-downs are impressive at first but grow tiresome after a few fights, and unfortunately, the repetitious commentators are truly annoying. Also, the tutorial mode is helpful but would be more so if it were interactive. But even with these faults, Knockout Kings promises hours of bone-jarring excitement.
