Apple's latest mobile operating system update is right around the corner. iOS 16 promises substantial changes to the way we interact with our iPhones, and one app that's getting some notable tweaks is Apple Maps. The mapping service will be far more helpful, according to Apple, which teased three significant changes that should make any commuter's life a little easier.
1. Multi-Stop Routing
This is a game-changer for Apple Maps users. With iOS 16, you'll be able to do more than route directions from point A to B; Apple Maps will let you add up to 15 stops, so you can plan out your whole day without having to start a new navigation session for each leg of a journey.
If you prefer to plot your stops on the big screen of a Mac, meanwhile, iOS 16 will let you sync those directions with your iPhone when you leave the house. And if you forget a place or your plans change, just ask Siri to add a stop so you can keep your eyes on the road.
2. Public Transit Cost
While public transportation isn't always cheap, it's more affordable than filling up your gas tank these days. If you're curious just how much you'll save, Apple is adding the ability to see fares right in Apple Maps with iOS 16. Just use the public transit option in Apple Maps to plan your route, and it'll show you how much the entire journey will cost.
3. Transit Cards in Apple Wallet
Finally, Apple is giving Apple Wallet a slight boost that'll help with transportation. Sure, it's not technically an Apple Maps feature, but it'll let you store your transit cards in Apple Wallet, making it so that you don't need to carry around the actual cards every day. When you plan out your route using the transit cost feature, you can simply use Apple Wallet to get on the bus, train, or any other form of public transportation.
