Amazon, ExxonMobil, and global payments provider Fiserv have teamed up to offer a new convenience feature for drivers across the US—the ability to pay for gas with a voice command.

As Business Wire reports, the new feature takes advantage of Alexa-enabled vehicles, Alexa-enabled vehicle gadgets, or by simply using the Alexa app on a smartphone. Over 11,500 Exxon and Mobil gas stations across the US support the feature, which allows drivers to say "Alexa, pay for gas" when they pull up to the gas pump. In response, Alexa will activate the pump after confirming the station location and pump number. Once finished, payment is taken automatically so there's no need to walk inside the station to pay or pull out your card to pay at the pump.

"Changing consumer expectations and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic are accelerating demand for contactless payment interactions that span digital and physical worlds," said Devin McGranahan, senior group president, Global Business Solutions at Fiserv. "The age of omnicommerce is here, and voice-activated smart devices are playing a pivotal role in enabling people to make purchases with speed, ease and convenience."

Amazon has summarized the process of filling up your vehicle with gas using the phrase "say, pay, be on your way," and you can certainly see how it's going to prove very popular due to how quick and convenient it promises to be for drivers.

It works with Echo Auto, Echo Buds, vehicles with Alexa built-in, and third-party vehicle devices with Alexa, such as the Garmin DriveSmart Sat Nav or the NextBase 522GW Dash Cam. Payment will be taken from whatever card you have set as default under the payment options of your Amazon account, however, if you need a receipt then you'll have to ask the station cashier. And if you're wondering where your local Exxon or Mobil gas stations are, the company offers a convenient location finder on its website.
