Eager for the new, lower-cost Peloton Tread? If you live in the US, you'll have to practice your patience.
During an earnings call on Monday evening, Peloton announced plans to push back the US launch of its new Tread nearly two months to May 27. The company had been planning to start selling the new smart home gym machine in the US on March 30. Peloton has updated its website to reflect the new US launch date.
The new Tread went on sale in the UK on Dec. 26, marking the first time Peloton offered a treadmill there. The success of that launch forced the company to reconsider the timing of the treadmill's US rollout, Peloton CEO and Co-founder John Foley said during Monday's call.
The new Tread will still launch in Canada on Feb. 9, as planned, he added. On that day, Peloton will also make the new treadmill available to a limited number of US customers in a few select ZIP codes who expressed early interest.
The company is now planning a full US rollout, with the exception of Alaska and Hawaii, on May 27. Foley said Peloton decided to delay the US launch to help its UK and Canadian teams meet expected demand in a timely manner.
Peloton first announced the new Tread in September. Priced at $2,495 ($1,800 less than the original), the new Tread features a 23.8-inch rotating HD touch screen (down from 32 inches) that tilts up and down 50 degrees, and a smaller 68-by-33-by-62-inch footprint (LWH). The original model, now called the Tread+, measures 72.5 by 36.5 by 72 inches (LWH).
