The one area where Microsoft easily beats Sony with its games consoles is on backward compatibility, and that looks to continue with the next-gen Xbox consoles.

As Engadget reports, Microsoft has today clarified which Xbox games can be played on the forthcoming Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The short answer is: all of them. All Xbox, Xbox 360, and Xbox One games will run on the new hardware, but there is one exception. Kinect titles won't work, for the obvious reason that a Kinect can't be connected to a Series X or Series S.

The extent of backward compatibility was confirmed in a tweet by Jason Ronald, director of Program Management at Xbox. And a list of all the backward compatible titles is available on the Xbox website, which Microsoft says won't list the full selection until Nov. 10 because, "A list this long takes some time."

Back in September it was confirmed that PlayStation 5 isn't backward compatible with PS1, PS2, or PS3 games. However, Sony's new consoles will run all but 10 PS4 titles, although there may be a few bugs in certain games that need ironing out. For most gamers, that may be good enough, but it doesn't come close to matching what Microsoft is offering.
