Yesterday, Sony confirmed the pricing and release date for the two PlayStation 5 consoles, and the showcase also highlighted a number of exclusive games both for the PS5 launch and into 2021. However, a trio of those games are also unexpectedly heading to the PS4.

In a post on the PlayStation.Blog, Sony Interactive Entertainment president and CEO, Jim Ryan, confirmed that Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Sackboy A Big Adventure, and Horizon Forbidden West will also be released for the PS4. Ryan explains that, "While these three games were designed to take advantage of PS5 and its unique next-gen features like the ultra-high-speed SSD and DualSense controller, PS4 owners will also be able to enjoy these experiences when they launch."

That's good news for PS4 owners who won't be purchasing a PS5 at launch, but there's another positive if you intend on buying the PS4 versions. Ryan confirmed that the digital versions will all include a free upgrade to the PS5 versions if/when those gamers decide to upgrade. Those opting to purchase a physical copy of the PS4 games don't lose out, but the free upgrade will only be available if they buy the more expensive PS5 including the disc drive.

Both Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Sackboy A Big Adventure are PS5 launch games, so will be available on Nov. 12 or Nov. 19 depending on where you are in the world. Horizon Forbidden West will launch at some unspecified point in 2021, but hopefully early in the year so as to keep PS5 sales momentum going.
