Microsoft may be focused on dealing with interest in the now official Xbox Series S console today, but one of its game studios also made a major announcement on a different platform: Minecraft is adding support for PlayStation VR this month on PS4.

Roger Carpenter, game producer at Xbox Game Studios, revealed support for PS VR in a post on the PlayStation.Blog. He confirms that all owners of Minecraft on PS4 will be able to play the game using Sony's virtual reality headset, assuming of course, they own one, when support rolls out in a patch before the end of September. Right now, developer Mojang is putting the final bits of polish on the experience, although the bulk of the work has been carried out by SkyBox Labs to integrate VR into the game.

Carpenter says with VR enabled, it's "100% the same Minecraft game" and nothing has been removed. The DualShock 4 controller is still used to move around and interact with the world (fighting, crafting, etc.), but you'll be experiencing the world as if you're physically in it. Carpenter guarantees "you will jump out of your skin at some point" due to the level of immersion on offer.

When the patch goes live, expect two play options to appear in the settings of the game: Immersive and Living Room modes. There's no detail yet on the difference between the two modes, but Carpenter believes everyone will think "both are cool," you just need to choose the mode you prefer after trying them out.
