UPDATE 3/29: Mitigating the DDoS attack took longer than expected, but the Among Us Twitter account finally gave players the all clear to start playing the game again last night, along with the hope that "the sabotages don't come back."

Original Story 3/28:Anyone eager to play Among Us over the weekend was met with the game's servers being offline due to a Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack.

The DDoS was confirmed via the official Among Us Twitter account late on Friday, March 25. The tweet said, "We have a sabotage going on lol," and then went on to explain it was directed at servers in both North America and Europe.

The online multiplayer social deduction game was therefore taken offline, and it remained that way for the entire weekend. The last tweet from the Among Us account was on March 26 stating the servers were still down, but that "they may come on/off but will update u when we think they're stable, sorry!!!"

A DDoS attack is an assault on a network that floods it with so many requests that regular traffic is either slowed or completely interrupted. It's possible to mitigate these attacks if you have the required infrastructure in place, but even then, service disruption can occur.

We still haven't had confirmation the DDoS attack is over, but the game may be playable again for some. Hopefully developer Innersloth can put an end to it today and have the game working for everyone again tonight. If nothing else, it should allow the team to be better prepared if another DDoS attack is attempted in future.
