Microsoft has released a public preview of OneDrive sync for Arm-based Windows and Mac devices.

The company says a new version of OneDrive is being tested with Office Insider and Windows Insider Program members now. It's not yet available to all testers, but Microsoft says it will be rolling out "over the next few days."

Arm-based processors have become increasingly common on consumer systems, thanks in no small part to Apple's push to replace Intel's chips with its own custom silicon, so it makes sense for OneDrive to support the architecture.

"To enable the preview," Microsoft says, "you'll need to make sure that you’ve joined the Insiders ring and enabled the preview in OneDrive Settings > About." (Emphasis theirs.) More details about the installation process can be found in a support article about choosing between the 32-bit, 64-bit, or Arm-compatible versions of OneDrive.

The comments on that support article note that macOS users will have to uninstall the Mac App Store version of OneDrive to use the newly optimized Arm version; it seems the apps won't be allowed to co-exist on the platform.
