In what Oculus is calling "a historic moment for VR," the new Samsung Gear VR is now shipping in the U.S. and internationally.

Samsung last week began taking pre-orders for the $99 Oculus-powered headset, which works with the Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Edge+, and Note 5.

Gear VRThose pre-orders should be arriving soon, or customers can buy now via Amazon, Best Buy and AT&T stores (T-Mobile coming soon).

The device uses your phone's display to provide the actual virtual reality experience, but it's 22 percent lighter than its predecessor, the Innovator Edition (video below), and includes new foam cushioning. It also boasts an improved touchpad for greater control over movies, games, and 360-degree video.

The headset can play dozens of made-for-VR games, including Gunjack, Mortal Blitz, and Lands End. More than 25 new titles—like the aquatic safari park Ocean Rift and mischievous creatures of Finding Monsters—are expected by early next month.

Plus, Oculus Concepts is now available on Gear VR, which allows developers to distribute experimental apps and games, and give players early access to new content.

Users can also watch content from Samsung's premium Milk VR service, Netflix, and Oculus Video, as well as Hulu, which recently confirmed plans to complete a VR app in time for the Gear's release.
