Available exclusively at Best Buy, the $129.99 (direct) Insignia NS-DPF8PR 8" LCD Digital Photo Frame won't wow you with slick looks or cutting-edge features, but its no-fuss navigation, good image quality and competitive price won't disappoint you either. If affordability is a top priority, and you don't mind a dull design and forgoing top-of-the-line features, such as Wi-Fi connectivity or remote photo streaming, the NS-DPF8PR is worth a look.
Design and Features
Very traditional looking, the frame's 8-inch LCD is surrounded by a chunky 1.8-inch-wide border; and you get both black and red inserts so you can change the border's color. The LCD is not flush with the border, it sits .16 inches beneath, with a thin layer of glass protecting the display. The less-expensive Sony DPF-D70 7" Digital Photo Frame ($120) features a much-more-elegant design, with a glass-covered LCD that's flush with its black border. Despite not having the slick looks of the Sony frame, the Insignia might be more appealing to some since its 800-by-600-pixel LCD has a 4:3 aspect ratio—most point-and-shoot cameras capture images in this aspect ratio, so your photos will always fill the display. The Sony frame looks more like a widescreen mini-HDTV with its 15:9 LCD, which is better suited to video playback (which the Sony frame does not support) than displaying digital photos.
