When I got my first look at the HP 7-Inch Digital Picture Frame at an exclusive press event a few months ago, I was excited. At that time, little-known manufacturers were flooding the market with digital frames that had awful LCDs and difficult-to-navigate interfaces. This was one of the first models from a big-name manufacturer with experience in making top-notch HDTVs, laptops, and LCDs. Unfortunately, this digital frame doesn't reflect any of the company's expertise: It's basically some OEM's subpar product that HP has rebranded.

In fact, it bears a striking resemblance to the equally awful yet less-expensive $80 Cenomax F7024B 7-inch Frame. Both frames have virtually identical interfaces, and they look quite similar in front and almost identical from the back. Each has a removable plastic frame that lets you insert paper faceplates to customize the look of the frame. And the Cenomax's distracting black dot—the IR receiver for the remote—appears in the upper-left-hand corner here, too.
