The Bottom Line

While it's cool to play as Fifty Cent, this game lacks any real complexity and challenge that'll keep an avid gamer intrigued.

Pros & Cons

    • Bustin' caps like you're Fifty Cent ain't half bad.
    • Levels lack complexity.
    • Story isn't great.
    • Only skill required is button mashing.

50 Cent: Bulletproof G Unit Edition Specs

ESRB Rating: M for Mature
Genre: Action Games
Platform: Sony PSP
  • Platform Tested: Sony PlayStation Portable (PSP)
  • Genre: Action
  • Rating: Mature 17+ (Blood, Intense Violence, Strong Language, Suggestive Themes, Use of Drugs)

While it's "fun as hell" to be Fitty Cent—err, Fifty Cent—slinging guns and shooting up New York City's crime syndicates, Bulletproof G Unit Edition for the PSP lacks the real substance that'll keep hardcore gamers intrigued. As Fifty Cent in this hack 'n slash action game, you need to solve the murder of an associate, all the while killing loads and loads of baddies with a myriad of weapons—guns, knives, pipes, and whatever else you can find. Or, if you can't find a good weapon, you can grab your enemy's weapon and use it against him (the short movie sequence that ensues is pretty fun).

However, the artificial intelligence resident in Fifty's enemies endows them with the brains of the Scarecrow, pre-Wizard of Oz. For the most part, they just walk back and forth, race toward you if you're close, and even seem to walk away if positioned on the edge of the screen. And as far as game strategy, expect to be button mashing for hours on end.

The top-down viewing angle is a surprise, too. I would have expected this game to be a first-person shooter. It's frequently problematic as you can easily find yourself in a blind spot.

If you're a real Fifty Cent fan, you'll groove to all the music and videos that can be unlocked, and you'll dig dressing Fifty up in "authentic" G-Unit clothing. And, Eminem and Dr. Dre make appearances in supporting roles. That's pretty cool, but not cool enough to justify buying this game.
