The Bottom Line

If you have pets, the self-cleaning brush roll on the Eureka Brushroll Clean with SuctionSeal is hard to beat, but it's a pretty average vacuum otherwise.

Pros & Cons

    • Good suction power.
    • Self-cleaning brush roll.
    • Retractable power cord.
    • Roomy dustbin.
    • Nice assortment of attachments.
    • Debris gets trapped easily.
    • Flimsy dustbin latch.
    • Poor attachment security.
    • Noisy.

The Eureka Brushroll Clean with SuctionSeal AS3401A is an upright vacuum cleaner that sets itself apart from the crowd with its self-cleaning brush roll. That means it can spin away tangled hair in seconds, simply by stepping on a pedal. It's a pretty average vacuum otherwise, with a noisy motor and some flimsy latches holding it back. The things that really matter, though, like good suction power, a worthwhile assortment of attachments, convenient cord storage, and the aforementioned self-cleaning brush roll could make it worth the $198 asking price, especially if you have pets.

Design
Available exclusively at Walmart, the Brushroll Clean is covered in black, gray, and orange plastic. A removable, see-through dustbin dominates the center of the chassis, while a long, unattractive hose drapes around one side of the handle and down the other like a scarf. Attachments hang off the back of the vacuum like baby opossum, with about as much security—they frequently fell off during testing. A large circular storage bin for the retractable cord sits on the back as well. Several pedals also mark the base of the vacuum, including one that reclines the handle, one that activates the brush roll, one that cleans it, and one to power the vacuum on. It's definitely not as slick as the Hoover Air Cordless Series 3.0, but Eureka's design emphasizes function over form, which is fine for something that you'll probably keep away in a closest anyway.
