Belkin WeMo Light Switch

The WeMo Light Switch connects to your Wi-Fi network and can be controlled using a smartphone and an acccompanying app. Installation is quick and relatively easy if you've ever changed a light switch, and setting everything up is a breeze.

The WeMo looks like a typical paddle light switch, save for a backlit 'On' indicator at the bottom of the rocker paddle. The module has a glossy white plastic finish, and measures 4.13 inches high by 1.69 inches wide by 1.31 inches deep. In the box, there's a white plastic faceplate, four wire nuts, two mounting screws, and an installation guide.

The WeMo's controls are simple and straightforward. You can turn the light on or off using the app's On/Off button, or you can create a set of rules to turn the light on or off at a certain time of day.

If you have location services enabled on your device, you can set the light to switch on at sunset and turn off at sunrise, or vice versa.

If you want to have a little fun with the WeMo you can use IFTTT (If This Then That) recipes to make the lights come on and go off according to certain events, or triggers. Simply choose IFTTT from the More menu to generate an activation PIN. You can create your own recipe or use one of the many shared recipes that other WeMo users have created.

The Belkin WeMo Light Switch makes it easy to control your home lighting from anywhere using your home Wi-Fi network and a mobile device,. It's a bit pricey and doesn't offer dimming, but it will get you into the home automation game without having to spend a small fortune on other components. And it works like a charm.
