Currently, Disney+ its still absent from screens in the UK. This is down to current licensing deals with Sky, and as a result the service won't officially launch this side of the pond until March 24, 2020.

The streaming service is currently available in the US, Canada, The Netherlands, Australia, and New Zealand.

Normally, using a VPN would be enough to bypass the block. However, since you can't create an account without registering card details corresponding with a viable country, it would seem UK residents are out of luck.

However, after some research, we have found a viable workaround that will allow access to Disney+ in the UK. It still requires a VPN, and there are a few extra steps along the way.

TL;DR: How to Watch Disney+ in the UK

Disney+ is Coming to Amazon's Fire TV Devices
  1. Download a VPN
  2. Create a US Apple ID or a US Google Play Store account
  3. Purchase a digital US gift card
  4. On an iOS or Android device, create a Disney+ account using a VPN
  5. Pay with the US gift card

Best Disney+ VPNs

  • PureVPN: £1.00/month, £12/annually (5-Year Plan)
  • CyberGhost VPN: £2.10/month, £25.20/annually (3-Year Plan)
  • NordVPN: £2.68/month, £32.16/annually (3-Year Plan)
  • ExpressVPN: £5.37/month, £64.44/annually (15 month partner exclusive)

Choosing your VPN

VPNs are vital for streaming content from outside your own country. This includes content from US Netflix, Amazon Prime, and most importantly, Disney+.

We've tested a number of VPNs and determined that PureVPN, CyberGhost, NordVPN, and ExpressVPN currently work the most consistently. At the time of writing, these VPNs can stream Disney+ content successfully.

It takes a little more than just a VPN to access Disney+ in the UK at the moment. Unless you know someone in the US who can set up and pay for the account on your behalf, you're going to need to use a workaround.

US Digital Gift Cards: iOS and Android

The best way to pay for a US Disney+ account is through US digital gift cards.

Using your new VPN, you will need to connect to a server so your IP address matches the US. After this, you can proceed to create either a new US Apple ID or Google Play store account.

Android users will need to buy a digital gift card from the US Amazon store, while Apple users will simply be able to buy a gift card from the Apple store. Depending on the store, the minimum price ranges from $10 - $15.

Download the Disney+ App

Once you've sorted the digital gift cards and loaded it onto your new US account, you can download the Disney+ app on an iOS or Android device.

Proceed to the membership screen and then use the gift card credit as your payment option. Streaming Disney+ content should then be unlocked on this account, and you can proceed on whatever device that works.

My Experience

I’ve been freelancing as a tech journalist for several years now, after long wanting to write about my passion for video games. I have bylines on Kotaku and other sites, but PCMag is where you can find most of my musings on gaming, its culture, and where the industry is going next. I also test online services for both businesses and individuals. If you’re interested in hearing me talk about entertainment, film, and TV, you can check out my Patreon and Substack, both under the name “Robby Knows.”

The Technology I Use

Most of the tech I use every day is within the Apple ecosystem. Currently, I rely on a 2025 MacBook Air for computing and dabble in art projects on my 6th-generation iPad Mini. I don't go anywhere without my AirPods Pro 2 in my pocket.

As an avid gamer, you better believe that I always have a controller in my hands if I’m not watching movies or TV. I use my PS5 and Switch 2 equally, depending on what’s the hot new release, and am always trying to find interesting ways to tinker with my Steam Deck.

Given the current state of social media and technology, I find myself going more analog to escape the noise. I have a modest collection of watches, both automatic and digital, to free myself from the pings and notifications of the modern world. I also put my phone in a ySky lockbox for 12 hours every night to reduce my screen time. I spent a lot of the past year trying to read good books rather than scroll through feeds.
