Amazon Prime Day is in full swing and if you’re interested in picking up a SIM-free iPhone, then you’re in luck, as the UK’s favourite phone brand has dropped in price in the Prime Day sales.

If you're a fan of buying your mobile phone outright and SIM-free, Prime Day is the perfect opportunity to pick up a great deal. Until the final seconds of July 16, you can pick up a brand new iPhone XR for only £639, down from the list price of £749.

Apple iPhone XR (64GB) - was £749, now £639

The Apple iPhone XR is the fashion-forward model of this year's iPhones, but it trades top-notch performance for a colorful design.

Other SIM-free iPhones have also received the same treatment, both the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max have been reduced by 15 percent, bringing the XS down to only £849, and the XS Max to only £901.

If you are looking to go SIM-free, you may also want to consider buying one of the best UK SIM-only deals in 2019. Three is boasting up to 30 percent off pay as you go SIMs this Prime Day.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day is a summer sales event that occurs once a year, and showcases a large number of discounted products for Amazon Prime members around the world.

Recently, Prime Day has become somewhat of a misnomer, and typically runs for longer than the 24 hours suggested by the event’s title. In 2018, Prime Day ran for half a day longer, and this year, Amazon is going one step further, with two whole days of discounts.

Only Amazon Prime Members Can Take Part

If you’re buying deals from Amazon, to take part in Amazon Prime Day, you’ll need to be a member of Amazon Prime, a subscription service that is currently priced at £7.99 a month, and includes a number of benefits. Amongst these are free next day delivery, Prime Video and Prime Music, and of course access to exclusive Amazon Prime Day deals.

We recommend signing up for a free 30-day trial. Signing up now will ensure you don’t miss out on any of the very best Amazon Prime Day deals in this year’s sale.

If you do want to sign up for longer, it’s currently only £59 a year, or even cheaper if you’re a student at only £39 a year. Students can also get access via a free six- month trial before opting into the paid subscription.

Of course, if you’re just in it for Prime Day deals, you can easily bag yourself a 30-day free trial on the Amazon Prime landing page.

My Experience

I’ve been freelancing as a tech journalist for several years now, after long wanting to write about my passion for video games. I have bylines on Kotaku and other sites, but PCMag is where you can find most of my musings on gaming, its culture, and where the industry is going next. I also test online services for both businesses and individuals. If you’re interested in hearing me talk about entertainment, film, and TV, you can check out my Patreon and Substack, both under the name “Robby Knows.”

The Technology I Use

Most of the tech I use every day is within the Apple ecosystem. Currently, I rely on a 2025 MacBook Air for computing and dabble in art projects on my 6th-generation iPad Mini. I don't go anywhere without my AirPods Pro 2 in my pocket.

As an avid gamer, you better believe that I always have a controller in my hands if I’m not watching movies or TV. I use my PS5 and Switch 2 equally, depending on what’s the hot new release, and am always trying to find interesting ways to tinker with my Steam Deck.

Given the current state of social media and technology, I find myself going more analog to escape the noise. I have a modest collection of watches, both automatic and digital, to free myself from the pings and notifications of the modern world. I also put my phone in a ySky lockbox for 12 hours every night to reduce my screen time. I spent a lot of the past year trying to read good books rather than scroll through feeds.
