Ultrafast broadband is the UK is no longer a pipe dream; more and more people than before are able to buy services that will give them download speeds of 100Mbps and above.

Availability still isn't widespread though and with still roughly half of UK addresses not passed by Virgin Media's cable network and BT's network Openreach having passed 1 million homes with G.fast, there's still work to be done.

As a result of this, the first thing you should do before considering ultrafast internet is a quick postcode check to ensure you know which providers are available to you.

Once you got an idea, you can then start to look at the very best deals to suit your home. Infrastructure is sure to improve even more over the next few years, with current UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson looking to accelerate the delivery of fast, reliable and secure broadband networks to millions of homes. If all goes to plan, the future is looking bright for broadband in the UK.

Hyperoptic: Best Ultrafast Broadband Deals

Then there's the likes of Hyperoptic and Gigaclear, which have been selling gigabit FTTP to tens of thousands of urban and rural customers respectively for the better part of a decade.

Currently all these plans are on sale, and have around £12 to £15 off the list price, so take advantage while you still can. If you're looking for something a little more flexible, you can pay just £1 extra a money to opt in for a monthly rolling contract instead.

BT: Best Ultrafast Broadband Deals

BT, just like Virgin Media, are spending millions on increasing the scope of their networks, and aim to have rolled out future-proof FTTP (Fibre to the Premises) to millions of homes by the end 2020.

Ultrafast offers are currently quiet, but are likely to resurfaced once BT relaunched its recent Stadia deal. Last month Ultrafast packages were bundled with a free Stadia Premiere Edition, the brand-new cloud-gaming platform from Google. At some point in February, BT is set to launch a brand-new range of broadband deals that will include Stadia.

Virgin Media: Best Ultrafast Broadband Deals

Virgin Media utilises its own Cable (HFC) infrastructure to deliver ultrafast broadband to UK homes. Because of its consistent efforts, if you can get ultrafast speeds, its likely you can get them with Virgin Media.

There isn't a discount on the fibre plans at the moment, but check back soon, as Virgin will definitely be discounting its broadband packages again.

EE: Best Ultrafast Broadband Deals

EE uses the G.fast infrastructure to install its ultrafast broadband speeds across the UK. Currently you can opt for either the Fibre Max 1 or 2 package, both of which currently have a set price of £36 and £43 per month.

Vodafone: Best Ultrafast Broadband Deals

Vodafone launched its Gigafast broadband last year, with speeds reach an eye watering 900Mbps on average, with the potential to hit 1Gbps during off-peak times.

My Experience

I’ve been freelancing as a tech journalist for several years now, after long wanting to write about my passion for video games. I have bylines on Kotaku and other sites, but PCMag is where you can find most of my musings on gaming, its culture, and where the industry is going next. I also test online services for both businesses and individuals. If you’re interested in hearing me talk about entertainment, film, and TV, you can check out my Patreon and Substack, both under the name “Robby Knows.”

The Technology I Use

Most of the tech I use every day is within the Apple ecosystem. Currently, I rely on a 2025 MacBook Air for computing and dabble in art projects on my 6th-generation iPad Mini. I don't go anywhere without my AirPods Pro 2 in my pocket.

As an avid gamer, you better believe that I always have a controller in my hands if I’m not watching movies or TV. I use my PS5 and Switch 2 equally, depending on what’s the hot new release, and am always trying to find interesting ways to tinker with my Steam Deck.

Given the current state of social media and technology, I find myself going more analog to escape the noise. I have a modest collection of watches, both automatic and digital, to free myself from the pings and notifications of the modern world. I also put my phone in a ySky lockbox for 12 hours every night to reduce my screen time. I spent a lot of the past year trying to read good books rather than scroll through feeds.
