Tinder is adding a new option for users to share their scheduled dates' details with family and friends through the app with a link that expires after a limited time, the dating app announced Monday.

The "Share My Date" feature lets romantic hopefuls send date details along to anyone up to a month in advance. If the date plans change, the sender can update the shared details with new information. Recipients who get a link to someone's planned date will be able to see the prospective partner's profile. Those with Tinder accounts will be able to view the match's entire profile, but those without can still see the match's basic info in a web browser including their photos, first name, and age. The shared links expire because Tinder believes this will prevent recipients from sharing others' dates on social media, TechCrunch reports.

"Discussing plans with friends and family is a time-honored dating ritual," said Tinder CMO Melissa Hobley in a statement. "Share My Date streamlines this basic info-sharing so singles can jump right to the exciting part, from figuring out what to wear to prepping conversation topics."

Tinder claims that the majority of its users are already sharing information about their dates with others before they happen, so the feature is designed to make that process easier. It could also help users feel safer about taking things to the real world, as the Share My Date feature includes the date's day, time, and precise location. Users can also add any notes about the date plans and the person to include in what's shared if they wish.

Tinder plans to add the new feature for users in the US, Canada, Mexico, UK, Australia, and other select countries in the next few months, but hasn't shared a firm launch date yet.

This isn't the first feature Tinder's launched that's geared toward sharing experiences on the app with more people. Last year, Tinder launched a "Matchmaker" feature that lets others swipe for you via a limited-time link. Up to 15 people in a day can swipe on your behalf with the new feature, and any selected matches will be sent to the original user for final approval.

I have previously written for Input, Game Rant, Dot Esports, and other places, covering a range of gaming, tech, crypto, and entertainment news.

I’ve been a PC gamer since The Sims (yes, the original) in the CD-ROM days. I still think about my first-gen pink iPod mini, which, looking back, was not so mini. In 2020, I finally built my own custom Windows PC for gaming with a 3090 graphics card, but I also regularly use Mac and iOS devices. As a reporter, I’m passionate about documenting the wide world of tech and how it affects our daily lives.
