Days after parent company Micron announced that it would shut down Crucial, its consumer-facing memory brand, it has popped up at a Comic-Con show in Delhi.
As Tom's Hardware reports, Crucial RAM and SSDs were on display alongside other Micron products, possibly to help sell off remaining inventory ahead of the brand's official demise next year. Prep for these shows often begins months in advance, too, so it's likely having a last hurrah.
Attendees at the show snapped a few pictures of the Micron stand, with Crucial showcased more than the company that's killing it off. Fans should enjoy these while they can, as it may be the last time Crucial makes any kind of public appearance.
Crucial is a standout memory brand that's released some iconic gaming kits over the years, so it's the end of an era for those of us who have been in the PC hardware space for the past few decades. Micron is moving on to greener, AI-driven pastures, switching most of its production from consumer DDR5 and SSDs to High-Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and Low-Power DDR memory (LPDDR), both of which are used in AI data centers.
The margins are better there as well. With extreme demand from companies looking to build "AI Factories," as Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang calls them, Micron won't have to worry about orders.
While laptops and handheld gaming systems can use LPDDR5 and LPDDR5X, Micron's memory is destined for the data center. With prices expected to continue rising due to demand-induced shortages in early 2026 and beyond, Micron's decision to shutter Crucial makes sense from a business standpoint, even if it is rather sad.
In the meantime, grab Crucial technology while you still can.
