T-Mobile SyncUp Drive

T-Mobile's SyncUp Drive connects almost any car to the cloud to offer a wealth of safety, navigation, and other features at a relatively affordable price.

Setup

Setting up the SyncUp Drive devices was straightforward; we simply plugged it into the OBD port of each testing vehicle and downloaded the SyncUp Drive app to an iPhone 6.

Vehicles

We simultaneously tested a pair of SyncUp Drive devices in two separate vehicles that were manufactured long before cars became commonly connected: a 2004 Cadillac Escalade and a 2001 BMW X5.

Battery

SyncUp Drive can send notifications if a vehicle's battery falls below a certain voltage or the engine issues a diagnostic code and lists recalls, service bulletins, and maintenance schedules.

Distance

The app provides information on each individual drive, including the miles and minutes driven, average and maximum speed, rpms, and average fuel efficiency. It also shows the route on a map.

History

SyncUp Drive records a history of each drive, showing the date, distance, time, and duration, and the data can be exported for business mileage tracking.

Roadside

SyncUp Drive provides free roadside assistance via membership in the Allstate Motor Club and covers towing cost of up to $100 per year, along with other benefits.

Geofencing

SyncUp Drive can be used to set up geofenced alerts if your vehicle leaves a certain radius up to 25 miles.
